Language is a funny old thing, as our primary means of communication we do not, in general, give it the thought and consideration it justifiably deserves, indeed, there is a saying that words are cheap. The words we use with each other are actually rather important and far from cheap: misunderstandings abound, wars are created, advertisers deceive, governments propagandise. Many expressions find their way into everyday use and become part of our cultural landscape and the following is a light hearted look at some of the more common ones.
