Rig the game and to hell with the losers

15_december_2014A letter a day to number 10. No 946

Monday 15 December 2014.

Dear Mr Cameron,

What is it with the main stream media (MSM)? The Guardian has come up with, “Tories accused of ‘trying to buy election’ with 23% hike to campaign spending”. As if you might have sneaked through a sneaky change of rules to up spending for the election for any other purpose than to try to buy the election.

The Electoral Commission rejected an earlier attempt which was based on the rationale that, “new developments in campaigning technology are not making politics cheaper”, but you just sneaked it through anyway. Naturally this breaks a promise you made in opposition that you wanted to take the big money out of politics by addressing the ‘big donor culture’, arguing that we should, ‘cut what is spent on a general election’. Never one to be fazed by an out and out lie when it comes to self interest, this was, of course, inevitable because your party is the darling of the lobbyists and big money.

There was no doubt in my mind that this would happen, given that you passed the Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Bill in January this year to silence ‘organised local and national opposition by civil society’.

Why have a fair fight when you can cheat and certainly bully anyone in a weaker position than you who can’t possibly bring the same ill gotten resources to bear?

Holding Disabled people at gun point at a parliamentary committee meeting, retroactively changing laws on the despicable Workfare pogrom, sanctioning the means of survival of the poorest and most vulnerable, driving people from their homes with the bedroom tax, forcing disabled people to seek work even if they were dying and stealing the Independent Living Fund. A sneaky move to spend more to buy the General Election in May is chicken feed, a mere bagatelle.

I just wish the MSM would just grow some balls. They, like you, have resources available that us mere plebs can only dream of, if we could be bothered that is, and yet they serve us a tasteless broth of mediocrity when it comes to politics saving all the really juicy headlines to knock the poor. Poverty porn meets city slicker crooks in suits, Champagne Charlie’s on billion pound benefits. I wont wish you luck, but then luck has no part to play in a rigged game anyway.
