Dear Mr Cameron,
Politics is in chaos and the reason it is in chaos is a matter of trust. I am fortunate to have grown up in a time when the world was not so filled with lies and deceit. It is tempting to talk of the world as more complex now and perhaps it is in some ways, but a far more important issue is that it is filled with ever more deceit and the effects of that are devastating and I think that some effort to untangle that is timely, especially as the general election looms closer.
Regardless of the issues the country faces here is a very simple truth, never trust a known liar. You lied your way into parliament and you have lied your way through your term of office. To name but two – Pre election promise – “With the Conservatives there will be no more of the tiresome, meddlesome, top-down re-structures that have dominated the last decade of the NHS”. Post election, regarding the bedroom tax, you stated in PMQs – “Obviously, what we have done is to exempt disabled people who need an extra room”. There are many, many more and in dealing with liars, where possible have nothing to do with them, and certainly never promote or vote them into a position of authority.
The issue then is who to vote in to serve the nation? I am, sadly, witnessing many brutal debates online on which party to vote for or whether to vote at all. As far as I am concerned it is a matter of individual choice and conscience who others vote for (apart from UKIP, a lunatic party which attracts Tory defectors), but the time to get brutal is in holding whichever party gets in to account should they prove false to their election promises. That is the time to engage mercilessly and relentlessly.
I think we are living in a time of unprecedented falseness, of lies and deception, not least from those who knowingly withhold information in order to deceive and we are paying a disastrously heavy price for it and it is time we had an accounting from top to bottom. Complicit in this are the highest courts of the land and even they deserve a shakedown. Swearing on the bible (if one does), which specifically prohibits swearing or making oaths on anything, is an act of perjury to a far greater authority than any court whether one believes in god or not. How can anyone establish truth or hold to truth when the process itself is false? In law, politics, advertising, media and individual lives, falseness is highly toxic and harmful to society and to individuals and, indeed, to consciousness itself.
When I was training as a community and youth worker back in the 70’s and 80’s there was an expression that ‘young people are the inheritors of uncertainty’. I would say that is now endemic in the so called civilised world, as toxic as any disease, leading to widespread mental illness and distress. There is no point in treating the symptoms if the causes are not challenged and addressed. In that, you and your government are a very large part of the problem and no part of the solution. It’s time for change, not least in our minds. Truth is the first casualty of war and that is certainly true in this war against us.
