A letter a day to number 10. No 1,375
Friday 18 March 2016.
Dear Mr Cameron,
Nothing says Tory like punishing the poor, but Osborne has refined this to a bottom of the barrel scraping festering pustule of rankness.
With all the supreme arrogance of the rich and clueless Osborne gives handouts to the rich whilst punishing disabled people. It would almost be forgivable if he had ignored the plight of disabled people, but no such leeway exists for a man who decides to hang disabled people out to dry by cutting their support whilst rewarding the rich.
Has he ever met a disabled person, or even seen one, or is he so cosseted in his world of privilege that disabled people are rendered invisible as non-beings?
I am reminded of the proverb, ‘As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly’. I wonder if it is that wealth and privilege creates for some a world so cloistered it renders them entirely blind to anything other than their own conceit?
Your latest ‘Help to Save’ scheme, to reward people on benefits who regularly save, that you claim will ‘improve the life changes of the poorest in our society’ by giving them a reason to save, beggars belief. Are you really that clueless about benefits and poverty?
Apparently, ‘Danny Cox, a chartered financial planner at Hargreaves Lansdown, said he expected the scheme to reduce the reliance of lower-income groups on payday lenders’. People who are not paid enough to live on, who, in desperation, go to payday lenders, will suddenly find enough money to start saving? Is he mad?
Try telling that to the woman, reported on Twitter, who was seen quietly crying outside a cinema. “Apparently she’d been sent home again for the second day because things ‘were quiet’. She’d sorted out her child care and was terrified about money. The evil of zero hours contracts. I asked her if it worked both ways. Could she take a day off when she wanted? “No”, she said, “They’d sack me.” That’s the real world, Mr Cameron, under the boots of your government.
It comes to something when lifetime Tory voting, disabled webmaster Graeme Ellis of the Conservative Disability Group website leaves the party, sabotages the site and resigns in disgust. Good for him, I guess he finally realised that you are attempting to cure disability by eradicating the disabled.
